Salt Flank Delineation by Interferometric Imaging of Transmitted P-to-S Waves

چکیده
We describe how VSP interferometric imaging of transmitted P-to-S (PS) waves can be used to delineate the flanks of salt bodies. Unlike traditional migration methods, interferometric PS imaging does not require the migration velocity model of the salt or upper sediments in order to image the salt flank. Synthetic elastic examples show that PS interferometric imaging can clearly delineate the upper and lower boundaries of a realistic salt body model. Results also show that PS interferometric imaging is noticeably more accurate than the conventional migration method in the presence of static shifts and/or migration velocity errors. However, the illumination area of the PS transmitted waves is limited by the width of the shot and geophone aperture, which means wide shot offsets and deeper receiver wells are needed for comprehensive salt flank imaging. Interferometric imaging results for VSP data from the Gulf of Mexico demonstrate its superiority over the traditional migration method. We also discuss other arrivals, such as Pp reflections, which can be used for interferometric imaging of salt flanks. For comparison, reduced-time migration results are also

Imaging internal multiples from subsalt VSP data — Examples of target-oriented interferometry
Seismic interferometry has become a technology of growing interest for imaging borehole seismic data. We demonstrate that interferometry of internal multiples can be used to image targets above a borehole receiver array. By internal multiples, we refer to all types of waves that scatter multiple times inside the model. These include, for instance, interbed, intrasalt, and water-bottom multiples...

Case History Recursive imaging with multiply scattered waves using partial image regularization: A North Sea case study
As more resources are directed toward reverse time migration, an accurate velocity model, including strong reflectors, is necessary to form a clear image of the subsurface. This is of particular importance in the vicinity of salt, where singly scattered waves are often not ideal for imaging the salt flanks. This has led to interest in processing doubly scattered waves (also called duplex or pri...

In this study, a new long-duration holter electrocardiogram (ECG) major events detection-delineation algorithm is described which operates based on the false-alarm error bounded segmentation of a decision statistic with simple mathematical origin. To meet this end, first three-lead holter data is pre-processed by implementation of an appropriate bandpass finite-duration impulse response (FIR) f...
